OOTW: We're all stories in the end… (COSPLAY EDITION!!)

Valentine's Day weekend here in LA meant one thing to me: Gallifrey One!

For those that don't know Gallifrey One is a Doctor Who convention here in LA. It's a great little convention that is super cosplay heavy. I went for the first time last year and decided that i would join the legions of people dressed up as variations of their favorite characters.

Thankfully, I have a friend who was more than willing to help me out with my quest. My friend Laura in Texas has almost every outfit from the Amy Pond years, as well as a complete female version of Matt Smith's season five costume (including a blazer I helped her find!). While I was visiting family over the Christmas holidays I was able to sneak over to her place and pick out an outfit of my own to borrow and bring back to the West Coast.

Unfortunately, due to my job and the kids being out of school on that friday, I was only able to attend Saturday and Sunday. I checked out their website and they had a nifty little schedule of cosplay meet ups for everyone dressing up and saw that they had a Doctors costly meet up on Saturday and then through the grapevine found out about an Amy Pond meet up on Sunday. So that planned out my weekend for me, thankfully!

So Saturday was Doctor Day! I had a button down from Old Navy, a blazer from H&M's L.O.G.G. line, my black skinny jeans from J. Crew (can you tell I love that store?), and my brown oxfords from Aldo - although you can't see those in the picture. I also have the maroon bow tie and suspenders to cap off the costume because bow ties are cool. Thankfully the outfit was comfortable enough to spend the rest of the day in. I kept my make up natural and tried to do the signature Matt Smith swoop with my hair (although it didn't quite work out as well as I wanted).

The best part was that it was an easy outfit to go from day to night in, as well. I had packed my camp chambray to change into later that night so I wouldn't be going to dinner and parties in my costume. But I still wanted to try and keep some part of the costume as a little nod to the weekend. I ended up putting it around my head as a headband, and looked pretty damn cute if I say so myself.

The very next day was the premiere of the Amy Pond outfit. Laura graciously let me borrow basically everything from the waist up (including the wig!). The outfit was a beige tank under a maroon-ish tee from American Apparel, a brown leather jacket from Target, black shorts from Nordstrom, black tights, and my trusty cowboy boots. Again, super comfy and fun to wear all day and this was the outfit that got me the most compliments and pictures! I had tons of fun trying to emulate Karen Gillan's sexiness throughout the day and got tons of great moments with other cosplayers.

….Oh yeah, and Arthur Darvill (RORY HIMSELF) too.

Hopefully my great weekend cosplaying helped show how easy it can be - I bet lots of you guys have the stuff in your closet already to make some of these outfits! "
