Boston Comic Con 2014

For the first time in what seems like forever I got to attend Boston Comic Con. I have attended other cons in the area, but for some reason it had been some time since I attended Boston Comic Con. One big factor to me going this year? Well one of my actresses from the show Firefly was going to be there, and being a fangirl I am, I had to meet Jewel Staite in person, she has been someone who I have adored for years. Way back to her Are You Afraid Of the Dark days (fun fact, my favorite episode of AYAOTD is the tale of the unfinished painting, which she was in) and of course Kaylee from Firefly! So I was set on going, I even had the plan of dressing up like Kaylee for what was my first time cosplaying at a Con.  (a full tutorial on my costume will be posting here in the next week!) So the day was going to be full of adventure.

Saturday was the day we decided to go. I went with Eric (which is was his first time ever at a con!) my friend Ashlee, who is no stranger to con's, and her husband. We got there pretty early, with a list of things we needed to see and do. While in line it was awesome to see a bunch of other ladies dressed as Kaylee, it got me excited for the day, and I sort of felt like we had this connection because we all shared this secret bond of a character. It really got me excited to meet Jewel too, but I had to wait a few hours for that!

(best random unicorn photobomb!)

First table we stopped by was Babs Tarr, who is the artist who just recently did the new batgirl re-design (WHICH I AM OBSESSED WITH BY THE WAY) she is the sweetest, and most adorable person I have ever met. She was nice enough to show us a few pages from the issue coming out in October, and was super sweet when Ashlee and I fangirled over the fact we love her batgirl design. I got a print signed and went on my merry way. I am telling you sometimes being at cons can make you feel very overwhelmed, esp if you are only going for one day. Its a lot going on and a lot to see. Eric was really enjoying seeing all the cosplayers, he was going to dress up for the day but was having problems getting his DeathStroke costume started so he just decided to wait till RICC. He had seen a Deathstroke Cosplayer he really liked and decided to ask them how they did they costume,. the guy was super awesome and was hanging around one of the best Bane cosplayers I had ever seen, and after getting some really helpful tips, he asked them if he could take a picture, and this was the epic result.

We had seen a lot of awesome cosplayers through the day, but this moment and one other stood out. It was kind of cool, and sort of out of my comfort zone to have people ask to take my picture, the first time I was short of shocked but the mother and son who asked me were really nice and it was pretty cool. I know on my youtube and here on my blog I can talk forever but in person I am kind of shy so it was different for me, and very much a great experience! Especially when a few of my followers stopped me to say hello!  It was awesome because I have never actually seen any of you in person so the fact a few of you just approached me and talked for a little bit was pretty freaking rad, and made my day.

Ok on to the part where I pretty much fangirled, i wasn't going to get a photo-op with Jewel because they sold out, but the night before they released a few tickets for her photo op, so I jumped on it. But I know from experience those can be kind of quick and impersonal. so Eric and I decided to go to her signing before the photos to get meet her. (it was our anniversary weekend so this was his gift to me). I was  nervous, because I was dressed as Kaylee, meeting the girl who payed kaylee, and that alone just made me nervous. But as the line got shorter and we grew closer, it was a lot easyer, she was very sweet and very kind, she made a joke about kaylee having purple hair and told me she loved my costume, Eric broke the ice by telling her he loved her in Are You Afraid of the dark, which is where she referenced herself as "baby jewel" than. which made it easy for me then to tell her how much I looked up to her character and adored her as a person, and she really lived up to her awesomeness, and pretty much made my day. The photo like I said was pretty quick, tho we saw a group of kids cosplaying as the whole Firefly cast! It was so adorable! The cutest kids ever for sure, and when we walked up Jewel called "its my purple kaylee!" and we took the picture. She really is the sweetest person, if you get a chance to meet her at a con, do so, you wont be let down. Now I can say I met one of the best mechanics  in all the verse. Cross that off my bucket list!

On my way from meeting Jewel, out of no where I ran into another Kaylee, an awesome Kaylee, why was this Kaylee awesome you say? BECAUSE THIS KAYLEE, had Purple Hair too! How awesome right? Two KAYLEES WITH PURPLE HAIR? It was a pretty good laugh and we had to get photos with each other, it made the day that much better, so thank you, other purple haired kaylee!

The rest of the day was filled with finding some pretty awesome toys, buying a very prints, and finding the that big ol' blue box that everyone HAS to take a photo with at a con, i mean its sorta a must if you are a whovian. Tho the doctor didn't sweep me away on some timey-whimy advneture, but hey, it was a good day! I wish I vlogged and took more photos but honestly when you are there, its crazy and you are just enjoying the moment and finding things, seeing things, taking in everything around you. I enjoyed myself, Eric enjoyed his first con and it was pretty much a blast. One of my best Boston Comic Con experiences. Even if its a bit crazy and hectic and crowded at times, it always ends up being a great day.

Here is my very short vlog from the day! Enjoy!!
