Halloween Outfit: "Oh there you are peter!"

When I was a kid I was obsessed with Peter Pan. I loved the movie Hook and made my mom and dad watch it every single day. I could quote it from start to finish and I would jump from couch to couch yelling bangarang, wishing I could fly off to Neverland. I had begged my mom to let me be Peter Pan for two hHalloweens and Hook for another. It was such a big part of my childhood, and one of the biggest costumes that stood out for me over the years. While throwing around halloween ideas and trying to come up  what to do. I realized it was 20 years since I last put on the Peter Pan costume my grandmother had made for me. Thats when I decided, I am going to make my Peter Pan costume again, but this time do it more like the one from Hook.  I wanted to do it all myself, like my grandmother had done for me 21 years back. Thus started "project bangarang"

It was really easy to do, I bought the green fabric from Walmart, and simply used a oversized t-shirt for my pattern and shorts,  traced it on the fabric, cut out the fabric, sewed it together, and I had the base for my costume. I had a ton of pics of Robin Williams costume from Hook saved for reference, used some scrap fabric for layers with the leafs, painted the leafs (also from walmart) brown with the green and hot glued those suckers onto the shirt. Once it was tried I cut jagged edges on both the shirt and the pants, kind of making it look messy and not to uniform. I cut the collar before doing the leafed, and added some brown fabric inbetween some hand made holes for the lacing, glued a few leafs on the hanging string, and most of the outfit was done. The hardest par was finding the right colored tights, which I ended up finding at payless shoes. The belt was just brown fabric and my costume was done. All and all I spent roughy 10-12 dollars. Which I am very impressed with.

I loved this costume, because it meant a lot to me. As a kid and even now. I felt like through making this whole thing I had a moment with 5 and 6 year old me. I bonded with her again and relized she is always going to be a part of me. I am still that girl who plays pretend, I just do it as a grown up now in my own ways. I hope I make that little girl proud. Because I still get giddy whenever I watch Hook, I can still quote it, and as soon as I put on this costume i said to myself, HAVE TO FIGTH, HAVE TO FLY, HAVE TO CROW! Because thats just what you do when you are Pan.

I hope you all enjoyed this, and I hope you all had an awesome Halloween!
