"You will learn respect”
Hey it is Nequisha again, when Ashley asked me to do another blog about an outfit of mine I was super stoked and even more excited when she asked me to do it on by far my favorite Halloween costume I have put together so far. This years costume that I did was Princess Kitana from the video game Mortal Kombat (just in case there are any people out there who haven’t played the video game or watched the movie).
As a child and still now as an adult I love playing video games; one of my favorite games to play was and still is Mortal Kombat. I can remember being at Hot Wheels roller skating rink playing this game at the arcade. So when this game originally came out Kitana was not one of the main characters, she didn’t come out until the second game. Now of course when these games came out I was 6, so naturally I sucked at them, needless to say my older brother was not letting me play the game with him, but when I got my hands on the controller I would pick her as my character cause my 6 year old self would pick her because she was a girl and wore my favorite color blue. When the movie came out and found out that she was an ass kicking, badass princess I was pretty much set that she was my favorite character ever.
I always wanted to be her for Halloween, but would always change my mind because her costume through out the years have gotten more revealing and as a plus size girl just didn’t feel comfortable doing it. But this year I was like to hell with it, I am a beautiful thick girl with confidence and the words of my mother came in my head “If people don’t like what I am wearing, they don’t have to look at it”. So I did a plus size hybrid version of Kitana from different Mortal Kombat games that I thought were friendly for the curvy girl. And lets be honest, who wouldn’t want to be a sexy plus size version of a badass princess from your favorite game. While out on Halloween some people didn’t get the costume, but the people who did were coming up to me being like Kitana!!!! Or saying Round 1 Fight! Or of course Finish him! I got so many compliments on my costume and was so happy that people liked it, even more excited that one girl said my costume was badass and wanted to take a picture of me and that a guy came up to me and said that I did Mortal Kombat Kitana justice.
If you want details on costume to help make your own version of her, here they are:
For my costume, I bought a blue corset on eBay only costing me $14.99. Side note when buying a corset make sure your know your bust, chest, and waist measurements so you can get a corset that fits you perfectly. The bottoms for my costume I used a high-waisted bathing suit bottom that I got this summer at Forever 21 online. The fans and mask I bought both on amazon fans were around $10 each and mask was like a fancy facemask that stops germs, pollen, and dust, which cost me $15. I bought my boots at Sears they were $42, which I didn’t mind paying because I can always wear them again. I also wore nylons shear nylons with my costume cause let’s be real it was cold on Halloween night.
I also wore earrings with my costume because I feel naked with out wearing earrings, which I got at Charlotte Russe for $5. The blue gloves someone gave me them for the costume and if I remember correctly they got them online for $4 and the black sequin arm socks I bought them at the children’s store Justice for $6 on sale. Finished the look off with putting my hair in a donut bun.
I hope you all enjoyed my costume and thought it was badass like I did.
