Plus Size OOTD: May The 4th Be With You!

My first OOTD ever on youtube was two years ago today, it was a Star Wars inspired look for "May the 4th" which is also known to many people as Star Wars Day! And it was just a simple star wars t-shirt and blazer. So I knew this year I had to put together a great May the 4th outfit for you guys. If you follow my blog, you know most of my outfits are Star Wars themed. So its not shook that I did something for this day. Star Wars is something I hold close to my heart, and have since I was a kid. When most little girls were playing with Barbies or baby dolls I was playing with little Star Wars figures with my cousins and having light saber battles in the back yard with those cheap colored sticks they tried to pass as light sabers in the late 80's and early 90's.

The Star Wars movies was something I watched all the time. It was the movies my grandmother put on for me when I was sick, (and Eric still does now), the first movie I remember quoting, or going to a midnight showing for when the new films came out.  It was my first fandom as a child and has stuck with me all these years.

Sure I don't need a date to dress up in my favorite Star Wars get up or sit on the couch for hours and watch all the movies I can in one day span, but its fun, and that is why I bring you todays outfit, its Darth Vader inspired, and I pretty much love it.

The dress, lets start with that. I got it at Hot Topic for a steal on clearance. I had been seeing Darth Vader dresses on Thinkgeek and Blackmilkclothing for awhile now, but I was able to get this one for way cheaper. Those the tag says its a dress, and it fits me like one. If someone was a bit taller than me, I would think it would fall to short, I even have to remember to pull it down at times, and I wore little shorts under it just in case, but other than that it fits pretty great, considering some female clothing from hot topic tends to not fit me to well. But this is quiet comfy and is really nice even though it is pretty form-fitting.

At first I was a bit worried with it being so form fitting, and maybe being see though (some hottopic female dresses and tops are for us gals with bigger boobs) but no issues with that at all. I paired it simply with my spiked sweater from Torrid, I felt it went well with the dress, tho I wish I had a red cardigan (mine has a hole in the sleeve I need a new one) but this one did the job well!

You could also wear this with dark leggings or even jeans if you thought it was too short, but I paired it with some floral tights from Forever 21+ which I thought added a little bit of girlie-ness to the outfit and also looked really well with the dress.  I love their tights because they fit me really well, most tights from other stores are really tight in the thighs, but these not so much! And of course I added my studded boots to the mix, I love them we all know this and I will find reasons to wear them until it gets to hot for me to.

My favorite pair of sunnies from forever 21 top off the outfit, and accessories, nothing really crazy there, I felt the studs added enough bling. Oh and if you feel needed you can add your Vader helmet but thats TOTALLY optional!

The hair I kept simple. I wanted it pulled off to the side kind of swept back and pinned. Its really what I have been doing lately since I am growing it out, and it seemed to only be tamed this way. Again nothing to crazy, just my every day kind of hair style!

The makeup is where I had a hard time deciding on. Last year I did a Darth Vader makeup And I was torn between doing that, or doing a sorta grungy, but still pretty look. I decided on the other grungy, pretty look. I just used my KVD Lady Bird palette to give myself a messy, smokey eye, added a TON of black liner to the look. I did my normal contour and blush, with Mac's Studded Kiss on my lips and the look was complete. I wanted the focus to be mostly on the dress so this played up the look, but didn't take the attention from the focal point!

And there we have it, my Darth Vader OOTD! Which is very fitting for May The 4th, and for other reasons.

Two years ago I started doing those kinds of videos to show off my nerdy style as well as try to break myself out of my shell more. So I did it in the only way I knew how, Star Wars!  I know to some of you this may seem kind of silly, but honestly I was nervous the first time I set up my camera to talk about what I was wearing. Most of you had only seen just the top of me sitting down talking about makeup, and two years ago though I was confident in my body, it was still harder for me to show it. I wouldn't of gone out and done a little photo shoot with Eric to show off my outfit, like I did for you guys today.

Thank you so much for reading my blog and watching my videos! i love you guys and the support you bring to me!

xoxo
Ashley
